We’re not happy, until you’re happy.
The Captain discovers the problem. James coordinates the response. The Alliance Technicians fix it properly.
Together, they’re the perfect climate team.
Alex, the Alliance Technician, stepped out of the van, grabbed his gear, and looked up.
A bloke in blue tights was standing on the front lawn.
Big C on his chest. Scanner in his hand. And a grinning, green Labrador Retriever at his side.
The bloke strode up to Alex without introducing himself. He pointed a scanner at the house.
On the front lawn
"Alex, Bed one unit has Dust Bunnies on the coils. Airflow's down forty percent. My ComfortScanner confirms it. Bed two and the split system on the south wall are running perfectly. Living room gas heater just needs a service. Don't leave it past winter. Here's the report. I'll see you at the next job."
"You scanned all of that from out here?"
"From here, I can scan the whole street, Alex. In fact, I already have. You've got four more jobs coming up."
"Wow. Who are you?"
"Captain Comfort, reporting for duty. The ComfortScanner can give a full diagnostic through three metres of concrete, two walls, and a family argument over who should have won the footy last night. And it's never once had to leave the footpath."
"And the green dog?"
"Standard issue offsider on planet Climatron. I'll see you at the next job, it's just two streets over."
"Before you go — you need to talk to James."
"Who's James?"
"James."
"Hi, Alex."
"James, there's a bloke out front of Mrs Chen's house wearing… uh… blue tights. Big C on his chest. Green dog with him. Says he's from another planet and reckons Mrs. Chen's aircon's got Dust Bunnies on the coils." Alex whispered into the phone, "We've been seeing him at every customer's home for weeks. And he's never wrong!"
"Check it."
"James."
"Yeah."
"The bloke is spot on. Fluctuations are all wrong. Coils are cooked. Dust everywhere."
"What's the green dog doing?"
"Just sitting there. Thumping his tail. Looks happy."
The Captain grabs the phone
"James. Captain Comfort. Climate diagnostician. Here from Climatron, third system past the Helix Nebula. I've been scanning Sydney for six weeks. The fluctuations are the worst I've seen in the known universe. Mrs Chen doesn't know why she's hot. She thinks it's the weather. Her aircon is the most urgent matter, but there are sixteen more within two kilometres."
"Can you find problems before the homeowner even knows they've got one?"
"Yes. That's what I do."
"Send me the list. We'll take it from here. And don't go anywhere. I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship."
Far across the known universe sits a civilisation built around one obsession: perfect climate control.
On Climatron, every home’s the right temperature. Every system runs flawlessly. Not a single Power Hog, Dust Bunny, or Air-Con Gremlin has been spotted in living memory.
For most Climatronians, this was paradise. For Captain Comfort, it was agony.
He’s the most talented climate diagnostician his planet’s ever produced. He feels human discomfort as physical pain. His instruments can find a failing compressor from three suburbs away.
On Climatron, none of that mattered. There was nothing to find.
So, he pointed his instruments past the edge of the known universe and went looking. The fluctuations came back fast.
Earth. Sydney. The worst climate fluctuations in the known universe. Plus, perfect beaches. And great coffee.
He left that night. He hasn’t been back.
Navy blue suit. Big C on the chest. Climate controlled. No cape.
Flies under his own power. Faster than an F1 race car on the ground.
Can diagnose everything. But, hopeless on the tools. Can’t fix anything without the Alliance Technicians.
Sundays. At the beach. Surfing with Pickle. Non-negotiable. Super suit doubles as a rashie.
Cappuccino. Double shot. Full cream. 75°C. Every morning.
“Double shot. Full cream. Extra hot. Seventy-five degrees. Not seventy-four. Not seventy-six. Seventy-five. And I’ll need the temperature confirmed before you hand it over.”
A pause.
“The ComfortScanner reads heat signatures to three decimal points. So… I’ll know.”
The barista remakes it. Every time.
The aircon that’s three weeks from dying in the middle of summer. And heating that can’t win against the cold. The switchboard that’s handling modern load but only just. The ducted heater choking on Dust Bunnies all winter while the family wonders why the power bill keeps climbing.
Detects faults, refrigerant anomalies, dust on coils, overloaded circuits, and temperature differentials from the street. Never wrong. Standard issue on Climatron.
Strips coils completely. Not just a filter clean. Every surface. Every time.
Clears ducts, drains, and blockages most technicians miss. Also, standard issue on Climatron. Earth tradies don’t have one. Alliance does.
Navy blue. Big C on the chest. Red trim.
Tech gloves. Ear-mounted scanner.
The suit’s climate controlled. Maintains perfect thermal comfort regardless of season or suburb. He’s never once felt a Sydney summer. The suit sees to that.
No cape. Never had one. Never needed one. And no need to wear his undies on the outside. That’s for wannabes.
Pickle doesn’t diagnose anything. He doesn’t fix anything. He just shows up at every job, finds a shady spot near the van, and looks happy.
Nobody knows how he gets there. He just materialises. The Captain hasn’t explained it. Nobody’s asked.
His job is to make customers happy. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Alliance Technicians like to go above and beyond for customers. Do something unexpected. Something kind. Something that didn’t need to happen but made someone’s day. They like to make people happy.
That’s a Pickle moment.
The Captain doesn’t just find problems. He tells Sydney about them.
Every radio spot is a field report.
Sydney hears about the problem before the homeowner even knows they’ve got one.
Two brothers. Seventy families on the payroll.
Doing it the right way, not the easy way, every single time.
Discovers the problem
Coordinates the response
Fix it properly
The right way. Not the easy way.
