What is Carbon Monoxide?
Carbon monoxide is a gas that’s produced by the incomplete burning of fuels such as natural gas, propane, oil, kerosene, coal or wood.
Any gas-powered appliance can produce carbon monoxide (CO) if it is not properly installed or maintained. The most common cause of carbon monoxide in the home is faulty gas appliances, such as heaters, cooktops, covens, fireplaces and hot water systems.
In most cases, these gas appliances are perfectly safe. However, if something goes wrong, it’s critical to catch carbon monoxide build-up as quickly as possible to keep your home safe.
Carbon monoxide build ups in your home can be incredibly hazardous to your health and should be investigated as soon as discovered.

Do All Gas Heaters Produce Carbon Monoxide?
When working properly, modern gas heaters produce a nearly negligible level of carbon monoxide and are perfectly safe in the home
However, improper maintenance and faults can cause gas appliances to leak carbon monoxide into the home, where it can be inhaled. All gas heaters have the potential to cause this problem if a fault develops, and the longer it goes undetected, the greater the risk.
Any gas heater that is installed in your home should be tested at least annually for carbon monoxide emissions. It’s dangerous to ignore carbon monoxide tests, as this gas is odourless and invisible – and a carbon monoxide leak can be deadly before you’re even aware of it.
Because gas heaters can produce carbon monoxide, it is important to have your heating system inspected and serviced every year by a qualified technician. Here at Alliance Climate Control, we are licensed and insured to perform carbon monoxide testing on your gas heater.
Could your gas appliances be causing carbon monoxide build-up? There’s one way to be certain – call us today to perform a carbon monoxide test.

What Causes Carbon Monoxide
In The Home?
Some of the things that can cause carbon monoxide in your home include:
Blocked Chimneys or Flues – A blocked chimney or flue can prevent the exhaust fumes from your gas heater from escaping properly, which can cause carbon monoxide to build up in your home.
Exhaust Pipe Leaks – A leak in the exhaust pipe can allow carbon monoxide to escape from your gas heater and enter your home. Gas heater leaks can be dangerous and should be fixed as soon as possible. A qualified technician should be called to fix any faults in your gas heater urgently.
Cracked Heat Exchangers – A cracked heat exchanger can allow carbon monoxide to escape from your gas heater and enter your home. Similarly, a dirty or clogged heat exchanger can also cause carbon monoxide to build up in your home. If your gas heater is not properly maintained, it can produce carbon monoxide.
If you have any of these problems with your gas heater, it is important to call a qualified technician to fix them.
Carbon monoxide leaks can be deadly, so it is important to take precautions and have your gas heating inspected and serviced every year.
Here at Alliance Climate Control, we are licensed and qualified to perform carbon monoxide testing on your gas heater. To book an appointment, contact our Sydney-based team today.
Signs You Have A
Carbon Monoxide Leak
Carbon monoxide is invisible and odourless, so it’s difficult to know if you have a carbon monoxide leak in your home. However, there are a few signs that you may have a carbon monoxide leak:
Dizziness – If you are feeling dizzy in your home, especially while your gas heater is on, it’s very possible you have a carbon monoxide leak. Carbon monoxide is odourless and colourless so it can be very difficult to detect. If multiple people in your home are feeling dizzy, exit your home and contact an expert immediately.
Gas Heater Flame Discolouration – If the flame in your gas heater is discoloured, it could be a sign of carbon monoxide leakage. A yellow or orange flame is a sign that the fire may be mixing with the carbon monoxide in the air, and you should turn your system off, and contact a technician for urgent testing.
Carbon Monoxide Tester Alerts – Installing a carbon monoxide tester is essential for every home with a gas heater. These machines will automatically detect carbon monoxide in the air and will alert you audibly. Carbon monoxide alarms save lives every year, and it’s always worth installing one.
Visible Black Soot – There should not be visible black soot around your gas heater. If there is, it’s usually a sign of a bigger issue that could lead to carbon monoxide leakage. If you spot this issue, contact a gas heating technician urgently.
Water Leaks – Water or liquid leaking from your gas heater can be a serious sign of damage. If water is able to leak from your system, so can carbon monoxide. If you notice water leaks, the safest option is to contact a local specialist.
If you have any of these signs, it is important to call a qualified technician to inspect your gas heater ASAP.
For the best in carbon monoxide testing in Sydney, look no further than the team at Alliance. We are licensed and insured to perform carbon monoxide testing on your gas heater, so you can be sure that it is safe to use.

What Should I Do If I Have A
Carbon Monoxide Leak?
If you have a carbon monoxide leak, you should immediately turn off your gas heater and leave your home. Once it’s turned off, make sure to call a qualified gas technician to come and inspect your gas heater.
Carbon monoxide testing is the only way to be certain whether your heating system is giving off dangerous gases. If there is a positive reading, your technician will also be able to find the source of the leak and repair it.
When your gas heater technician is repairing your gas heater, it is important to stay out of the home. The fumes from the gas heater can be dangerous, and you don’t want to breathe them in. When they fix the leak, you can ask them to test the carbon monoxide levels in your home to ensure it’s safe to return.
A gas heating specialist is also able to install or test your carbon monoxide detector to ensure that it is working properly. A carbon monoxide tester is essential for your safety and the safety of your family – so if you don’t have one, this should be your top priority.

What Our Community
Is Saying About Alliance
He made sure everything was checked properly and kept the workspace clean and tidy throughout the visit. It’s always great to deal with someone who takes pride in their work and respects your home.
Very happy with the service and would happily recommend Andrei and the Alliance Climate Control team.
A special mention to Giannis Koutsourais (the “Golden Greek” painter) and Liam Stuart (plasterer) who finished off the air-conditioning install. Both were on time, highly professional, and clearly take pride in their work.
The workmanship was first class and the finish looks excellent. It’s always great to see trades who care about the details and leave everything looking perfect.
Highly recommended.
We would recommend this company to anyone who are contemplating engaging them to do any work for you.
The team also went above and beyond by waiving the initial call-out fee due to a booking error, which was a very appreciated and thoughtful gesture.
Highly recommend their service. Wishing Kody and the team a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
**Adding on post 1st visit**
Following my initial review, I had to call Kody back as my aircon started leaking after the first visit. We discussed a repair that might involve cutting into the gyprock to resolve the issue.
On the day, Dylan, Colin and Ioannis attended and were extremely professional and accommodating. Instead of immediately cutting the gyprock, they took the time to explore alternative solutions and managed to fix the issue without opening up the ceiling, which I really appreciated.
Big shout out to Ioannis as well for offering to patch up some paint on the ceiling free of charge - a very thoughtful gesture. Really impressed with the team’s creativity, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile. Highly recommend them.
They communicated with us and instructed us with a detailed summary of what they did and provided us with contact details.
Very happy with how they just got on with the job.
Plasterer work and electrical work also excellent. (Painting to be done by owner. My choice.)
Very happy with the outcome and the service provided by Vy, Eric, Meddy, Harry, and JJ. Job no. 99701.
Ahmed, Louis and Maisauri did an amazing job in extreme conditions.
They are certainly a great asset to the Company and we would have no hesitation in recommending them.
They took great care in our home, covering the floors and all nearby valuables with drop sheets before starting work, and when they finished the area was completely spotless. It’s clear they take pride in what they do.
Highly recommend Matt, Nick and Carlos from Alliance Climate Control if you’re looking for a reliable and professional team.
From the quoting call by James, to Zac organising the job, through to BJ and the team completing a challenging install, never once asking to change to an easy solution and working tirelessly to deliver a quality product, it was the best experience I have ever had with trades. James shadowed the job from start to finish, checking we were happy at each step, nothing was too much trouble, professionalism was paramount for James and the entire Team. I have never experienced a group of installers work so hard to deliver the agreed solution, not a single deviation, complaint or awkward conversation about changing the plan, they knew they could do it and they did it.
After the installation we identified 3 minor issues, Alliance held back the final invoice (without being asked to), sent their best service technician and all problems were solved in a single visit to an exceptionally high standard. James called to confirm we were satisfied and confirmed that it is OK to send through the final invoice.
I will only ever use Alliance for all my air conditioning requirements, including servicing and any future installations at other properties. In a marketplace with a never ending stream of air conditioning companies to select from, it is hard to know who to pick, make the choice simple and select Alliance.
Edit to add the electrical installation- Mohamed and James were amazing. The job was very long, but the persevered and did a very nice neat conduit. They cleaned up after drilling and the cut offs- very neat work and great quality. Very polite and professional.
AC works ! Thank you for your services, would not hesitate to use ACC crews again.
Thereafter did a good job, friendly and helpful.
New installation completed 20/02/26: Given our previous positive experience using Alliance CC we used them again to install ducted AC in our new house. Similarly smooth process and commitment to great customer service. James who quoted was very thorough taking time to walk us through the options and approachable in answering our further questions in the lead up. Yunus and his team including Matthew, Veysel and Carlos were courteous, efficient and careful with our property during installation. Thanks all!
Much appreciated, thank you.
