Power Points

Power points, or General Power Outlets (GPOs) as they are sometimes called usually require a hardwire installation and sometimes by a qualified electrician. Power points come in several styles, designs and configurations to suit a wide variety of applications.

Single, double, triple or even quad configurations are readily available, some are provided with USB outlets for charging digital devices, some with a supplementary switch to control a light or fan or some may even have a pilot light to show when the power point is on and live.

As our lifestyle embraces outdoor living areas, BBQ’s and swimming pools, our need for power points, resistant to adverse weather conditions, has also been realised. For this reason, many weatherproof power points are also available to enhance a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

Other variations of indoor power points include WIFI remote features, particularly useful where electrical power can be remotely controlled for standby devices or other purposes, some with timers to operate within certain time intervals, even floor-mounted or benchtop mounted models that remain concealed until needed.

The job went perfectly, with a successful outcome: a new, relocated, up-dated electrical circuit board. The electricians used previous openings, the wall cavity, etc. to minimise changes in appearance. The members of the team were all extremely helpful and communicative: Charles, Ryan, James and Aaron

Today, a fantastic team of five technicians – Jonathan, Juan, Andre, Gok, and Shaad – came to our home in Earlwood to install our new gas ducted heating system, and we couldn’t be happier with their service. V led the air con work, Liam led the plastering. Both were very competent and a pleasure to work with. The job in the aggregate took way too long but I understand that was a break down in company communication between quotes and execution of work.

Just had a cleaning service for our split system in ceiling cassette Fujitsu system and I have to say it was well worth it! I was concerned of the cost at first, but after having the system for close to 16 years, I now hope to get a few more yet. The guys who did the work Mitiesh and Brandon were wonderful - professional, clean, informative, careful and thorough. I would recommend this service

The job Alliance was doing for me appeared straightforward at first but when rummaging in the guts of the electrical configuration powering my old house, a problem was found. The cavalry was called in and the problem resolved with only a minimum of expletives needed. Many thanks to Aden, Mo and Ryan. Charles too.

We decided on Alliance after much consideration and are happy with the installation so far. The team of BJ,Theo, Andre and Matt were all personable and diligent workers and explained things to us as they went along with the. installation. My only slight issue was that I received too many phone calls from different numbers and initially couldn't tell from where the call originated or if it was a spam call. I feel a single source of contact would be preferable at least until the commencement of the job. But all in all, I am satisfied and pleased that we chose Alliance

I highly recommend Alliance Climate Control, especially their electrician Charles. Charles was extremely friendly, professional, and arrived exactly on time. The work was completed quickly and efficiently, and the quality of the job was excellent. What impressed me most was his attention to detail and the fact that he cleaned everything up afterwards, leaving the area spotless. It’s refreshing to deal with a tradesperson who is reliable, respectful, and takes pride in their work. A fantastic experience from start to finish. Thank you, Charles and the Alliance Climate Control team!

Easy and stress-free process from quotation through to installation. James was great to deal with during the quoting stage, and Meedy and Christian delivered an excellent installation. What stood out most wasn’t just their expertise, quality workmanship and product knowledge, but how genuinely happy they were in their jobs. Meedy mentioned that their boss had taken the team to the pub the week before, and it was clear that the company values and looks after its employees. As a customer, you can feel that positive culture. There was a genuine warmth and enjoyment in the work they do, which is something you don’t often come across these days. When people are looked after, it shows in the way they treat their customers. I honestly haven’t had a conversation with tradespeople like that in a very long time. The quality of the work was excellent, but seeing a team that genuinely enjoys what they do was probably the highlight of the whole experience.

Great experience…thorough, friendly, inc sales pitch on the service agreement , but as a courtesy when in someone else’s house…please ask to use the loo. Two occasions. Not asked. Takes 2 secs. Should be a company directive.

USB Power Outlets

Most of our portable digital devices are charged via USB power points. Most homes have at least one smartphone that uses a USB cable. However, to charge these devices you’ll need to bring your bulky adapter first.

But those days are over, there are more options than ever before. You can now charge your devices directly into a USB power port in the wall. That means no more bulky adapters taking up a whole outlet that can be used for something else. Plus, by charging your devices directly into an electrical receptacle means that your device can charge up to 40% faster than using an adapter.

What can Alliance offer?

Generally, when an electrician visits your home and hardwires a power point, either indoor or outdoor, they will provide a double outlet for convenience. However, triple or quad indoor power points are just as easy to install on request and less expensive if specified initially rather than revisiting later to modify the installation.

With such a wide variety of power points available, it is better to consult with a credible supplier or installer to help you choose the best option for your home and lifestyle.

Alliance Climate Control with an advantage over a “bricks and mortar supplier” can provide that assistance at your home and with our Master Electricians are always mobile in and around Sydney. They are always accessible to help you decide the best, and safest, power point options for your home either during construction, renovation or any other time you need advice.

Our Master Electricians can advise the best options to satisfy your building or “reno” plans while ensuring electrical safety. Our Master Electrician will:

Prevent Misuse Of Power Points

Electrical power is so versatile, enhancing the convenience of our modern lives. However, if an electrical circuit becomes overloaded because too many devices are operating at the same time, the consequences can become catastrophic.

The most common misuse of wall power points is to connect multiple outlet power boards to each power point outlet. While appliances with low power requirements may not affect such as chargers or digital devices, these generally are not operated at the same time and cause little concern, typically failing to reach the maximum ampere value of the circuit.

However, if each outlet is connected to heating appliances, for example, an electric kettle, toaster, microwave oven and hot iron at the same time, it’s likely to overload the circuit and either blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker or safety switch as may be fitted.

Another common misuse of power points is to disregard any arc flashing or crackling from a damaged power point connecting an appliance. This indicates a severe problem with the power point or wiring supplying power to the appliance and may blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker/safety switch.

An additional fault might occur if wiring supplying electricity to a power point becomes wet behind the wall which may be due to a leaking roof or leaking water pipe.

Each of these symptoms require urgent attention. Any power points on the same circuit should also not be used until they have been checked by a professional electrician.

Electrical injury is a dire consequence of insufficient electrical safety and it is important to protect any potentially live power point from curious children who might inadvertently poke the live terminal with a metallic prod. This might cause severe injury or death in certain circumstances. An effective means to safeguard young children is to cover the power point outlets with a “dummy “plug or to fit a “latch cover” over the power point.

Your Master Electrician can always advise the most suitable power point type to ensure your preferred lifestyle and safeguard the safety of your family.
