Power Points

Power points, or General Power Outlets (GPOs) as they are sometimes called usually require a hardwire installation and sometimes by a qualified electrician. Power points come in several styles, designs and configurations to suit a wide variety of applications.

Single, double, triple or even quad configurations are readily available, some are provided with USB outlets for charging digital devices, some with a supplementary switch to control a light or fan or some may even have a pilot light to show when the power point is on and live.

As our lifestyle embraces outdoor living areas, BBQ’s and swimming pools, our need for power points, resistant to adverse weather conditions, has also been realised. For this reason, many weatherproof power points are also available to enhance a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

Other variations of indoor power points include WIFI remote features, particularly useful where electrical power can be remotely controlled for standby devices or other purposes, some with timers to operate within certain time intervals, even floor-mounted or benchtop mounted models that remain concealed until needed.

The service and follow up was prompt and as promised... We had a 9 year old AC unit which had stopped cooling and making unsteady noises... The initial review and assessment to change the unit foundations which was rotting and a service was point on. The service person was prompt, very kind and mindful despite the difficult access to the roof unit. Have to say, the only issue I'd have was the initial inspector and quote pushing us to replace the unit for double the service price which in itself was a bit pricey, but in these days a full days of work it's expected. All in all an happy customer, as happy to pay a premium for a job well done! Great service - definitely will use again.

We installed our air conditioning 5 years ago. The installation was perfect and we have had no issues in all the time we have owned the system. We had to get them back because one unit was leaking water. They were prompt to attend to the problem, admitted that some of the problem was their issue and they would cover the fix themselves.

They owned the problem. They are always very polite. The engineers they send out are highly professional, leave no mess, take off their boots and are good at communication with the client.

Decided to ask ACC to do some straight electrical - powerpoint installs , sconce replacement.

JJ and Aden did a great job: quick, friendly, informative. Really neat job. Cleaned up after themselves and even took the old sconces for disposal.

Happy with the work.

JJ also noticed some switches were out of code in my switchboard and recommended and completed replacements.

So house electrics are a little safer too.

AIR COND INSTALL Review:

Two teams worked on our place:

Andres , Cristian and Qais replaced our ducted system, and Vy, Luan and Maison installed a separate split system where ducted couldn't reach.

Both teams did an excellent job.

Everyone arrived on time, walked us through what was going to be done and were happy to answer any questions. They were friendly and professional. Completed install on time, showed us how the new system worked and made sure we were happy. Cleaned up afterwards too - as promised.

Ducted team worked for two days in some hot conditions, removed old unit and ducting and disposed off. Hassle free for us. Install of new system, ducting and control system was trouble free for us.

Split team did a great job too - gave advice on best position for indoor and outdoor unit, clean efficient install, tidied up after themselves. Really professional.

Tech was nice polite guy but he did not have the correct filters and wanted to cut some down to fit .. this does not work as cut down filters do not hold their shape so I told the guy not to replace them this time although the cut downs ones that were installed last year were quite clean, they were not in good shape.
Update: the company apologised for not having the correct filters at the time and promptly arranged for the correct units to be installed .. they really do follow up and fix any issue so deserve 5 Stars

Alliance are the best! Garret, Shane and Louis did a fantastic job installing our new AC unit. Protective mats were placed on all floors, they removed all mess and even took away our old unit. We had our split system air-conditioning installed almost two years ago now (April 2024) and I have been meaning to write a review, because we were really happy with the service and installation, and I have only just got around to it. But that may be good, as I can say that the system works perfectly, and we have had not problems.

We have an inner city terrace, and have over more than a decade got quotes, only to be told that "it is not possible". So, I looked for someone close, who I figured would have experience with our type of dwelling. The quote was very reasonable, the installation went smoothly, and we are very happy.

Most of our portable digital devices are charged via USB power points. Most homes have at least one smartphone that uses a USB cable. However, to charge these devices you’ll need to bring your bulky adapter first.

Prevent Misuse Of Power Points

Electrical power is so versatile, enhancing the convenience of our modern lives. However, if an electrical circuit becomes overloaded because too many devices are operating at the same time, the consequences can become catastrophic.

The most common misuse of wall power points is to connect multiple outlet power boards to each power point outlet. While appliances with low power requirements may not affect such as chargers or digital devices, these generally are not operated at the same time and cause little concern, typically failing to reach the maximum ampere value of the circuit.

However, if each outlet is connected to heating appliances, for example, an electric kettle, toaster, microwave oven and hot iron at the same time, it’s likely to overload the circuit and either blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker or safety switch as may be fitted.

Another common misuse of power points is to disregard any arc flashing or crackling from a damaged power point connecting an appliance. This indicates a severe problem with the power point or wiring supplying power to the appliance and may blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker/safety switch.

An additional fault might occur if wiring supplying electricity to a power point becomes wet behind the wall which may be due to a leaking roof or leaking water pipe.

Each of these symptoms require urgent attention. Any power points on the same circuit should also not be used until they have been checked by a professional electrician.

Electrical injury is a dire consequence of insufficient electrical safety and it is important to protect any potentially live power point from curious children who might inadvertently poke the live terminal with a metallic prod. This might cause severe injury or death in certain circumstances. An effective means to safeguard young children is to cover the power point outlets with a “dummy “plug or to fit a “latch cover” over the power point.
