Can You Spot the Dangers in These Pictures?

Have you had a hot water system inspection in the past 12 months? If not, your hot water system could be developing dangerous faults. Alliance Climate Control can help with a FREE professional Hot water health check!

Why Are Hot Water System Checks So Important?

A well-maintained hot water system is perfectly safe – but taking this for granted can be extremely dangerous. Regular inspection and upkeep is required to make sure your home hot water system remains in good repair.

If any component of the hot water system fails or is damaged, this everyday appliance can become a hidden safety hazard.

Risks of an unhealthy hot water system include:

Without a professional inspection, it’s nearly impossible to detect these problems before they escalate.

However, it doesn’t have to get to that point. Hot water health checks are quick to perform and, thanks to the team at Alliance Climate Control, you can book one completely free.

Common Hot Water Health Hazards Around The Home

We rely on our hot water systems every day, from showering and washing clothes through to drinking water. But do you know your hot water is really safe?

Through overuse, low maintenance and general wear and tear, your hot water system can stop working efficiently. Hidden faults in your system can lead to build-up of bacteria, scalding water or even an exploding hot water tank.

The most common hot water health hazards include: faulty or leaking pressure valves, tempering valve faults, dirty or contaminated tank water and corroded anodes.

Unfortunately, these are all hard to spot unless you know what you are looking for.

Here at Alliance Climate Control, our team provides free hot water health checks to local residents. Not only can we identify these issues, but we can let you know what’s involved in repairing them.

Faulty Pressure Limiting Valves

Do you know just how important pressure limiting valves are to your home’s safety? With a faulty pressure limiting valve, excess pressure could cause critical damage. An over-pressurised hot water system can burst, damaging walls and floors as well as causing injury or steam burns to anyone nearby.

Pressure limiting valves should be professionally tested at least once a year to ensure they’re functioning correctly. Pressure limiting valve faults can be caused by a range of issues, like overuse, age, infrequent maintenance, or general wear and tear.

Get your pressure limiting valve inspected today as part of an Alliance Climate Control free hot water health check.

Leaking Pressure Relief Valves

Pressure relief valves are a safety measure installed into most hot water systems. These valves are designed to activate if there is too much pressure build up in your system. Between these and pressure limiting valves, they protect your home from a hot water system explosion.

If your pressure relief valve is leaking, that’s a sign something is wrong, and it should be addressed immediately. The valve may be overdue for replacement, or debris can get in the seal and prevent the valve from closing completely.

Pressure relief valves should be replaced every five years, and overlooking this is an enormous risk. Without a properly functioning relief valve, you are risking the safety of your home.

You wouldn’t drive without a seatbelt, so why use a hot water system with a leaking pressure relief valve? Get in touch with Alliance today to have it inspected as part of our free hot water health check.

Dangerous Tampering Valves

It’s common to think that the taps control how hot your water is. But tempering valves are what actually keeps your hot water at a safe level.

Hot water needs to be stored at over 60°C to prevent bacteria build-up, but water that comes from taps must be under 50°C to be safe (or 45°C for elderly and childcare facilities).

Tempering valves ensure the water that comes out of your taps is never dangerously hot. However, a tempering valve fault can easily lead to scalding hot tap water when you least expect it, capable of causing third-degree burns in a single second.

We recommend annual tempering valve testing to ensure your water is safe, especially with kids in the home. If your water temperature is inconsistent, that could also be a sign your tempering valve is faulty.

During our free hot water health checks, an Alliance technician will inspect tempering valves to make sure they are working correctly.

Dirty Hot Water Tank Water

The hot water tank is the heart of your hot water system, but it’s also prone to issues of its own. Discoloured water is not only unappealing, but it can also be bad for your health, and the life of your tank.

Causes of dirty and discoloured water include rust, dirt and scale build-up. Over time, scale and dirt can build up on the heating element in your system, causing much bigger problems than discoloured water.

It’s essential to have your hot water tank inspected if you notice discolouration in your water. Ignoring discoloured water can lead to health issues and premature breakdown of your hot water system.

Here at Alliance, hot water tank checks are one of the aspects of our free hot water health check. To book your free hot water health check, call us today.

Corroded Anodes

Corrosion is naturally caused by currents passing through the metal and water of your hot water system. That’s why most systems are installed with a sacrificial anode. These anodes will absorb the corrosion, giving your hot water system a longer lifespan with fewer repairs needed.

Anodes are designed to corrode over time, but they cannot stay in your hot water system. Once corrosion starts to occur, your anode will need to be replaced. If your anode is not replaced, you risk your personal health through contamination, as well as the health of your hot water system.

Costly Water Leaks

Water leaks are one of the leading causes of increased water bills, as well as major property damage. With so much water flowing in and out of your hot water system daily, it’s one of the most common places for a water leak to occur.

Even small water leaks can have a big impact on your water bill over time, and it’s easy for them to go undetected. Larger leaks can cause significant damage to your property, including mould growth and even long-term structural damage.

When performing hot water system inspections, we aim to catch leaks at the very best time – before they even begin. Keeping on top of rust and corrosion will prevent damage to your hot water tank, and in the event of a leak, we’ll catch it as early as possible.

Don’t wait – book your free hot water system health check with Alliance Climate Control today.
