An instant gas hot water system or a continuous flow hot water system is a tankless hot water heater. This means consistent hot water when you need it. These systems are generally wall-mounted and compact unlike a hot water tank that are floor-mounted and large.

Most instant hot water systems use gas however electric models are also available. Generally, they can be cheaper to run compared to storage tanks, as there are no heat loss issues. As an instant gas hot water system, it doesn’t hold a tank. It warms the water as it passes through a heat exchanger when hot water is needed.

When you turn on the hot water, the cold-water travels through a pipe and into the tankless water heater unit where it is heated by a gas burner or an electric element. This allows you a constant supply of hot water.
On average, tankless water heaters can provide 7 to 14 litres of hot water per minute. Also, gas-fired tankless water heaters can produce higher flow rates than electric models.
